Candles & Cocktails

For adenomyosis awareness month we decided to do our first in person event with a twist… we did a collaboration with Present your Joy and K’s Cocktails to raise awareness for adenomyosis.

It was a wholesome Sunday afternoon full of joy, laughter where we all came together to learn the art of candle making.

The workshop took place in an intimate venue on Portobello Road, Ladbroke Grove. The environment was aesthetically pleasing with a feature tree with colourful flowers. We were greeted by Alisha and Korin and our tables beautifully decorated with white tulips and all the tools we needed to create our candles and our first cheeky cocktail, a pomegranate martini.

Alisha talked us through the instructions and equipment, then we began, we had to choose our fragrances from Present your Joy’s signature range. There was 6 scents available. Damson plum, Rose & Patchouli, Dark Honey & Tobacco, Velvet Peony & Oud, Cassis & Fig and black plum and rhubarb.

I was stuck between the dark honey and tobacco and Cassis & Fig. I went for the Cassis & Fig (Sweet cherries, raspberry and cassis open this fragrance, leading into notes of Orris, raspberry leaf and fig lying on a creamy, coconut base.) This smelt heavenly… the way I would describe it is sweet and fruity. We then weighed out our decided fragrance, fixed the wick into the candle jar. (Incoming another cocktail… Rhubarb and Gin. This cocktail was my favourite). We then poured our candles, Alisha then explained the science behind the wax as we used Soy wax- she informed us that shop bought candles are normally paraffin based.

Of course I spoke about The Adeno Gang and adenomyosis, and the reason why we held the event. After a few weeks of raising awareness , we thought it would be good to do something different, learn a new craft, meet new people and continue to spread awareness in a unique way.

Overall, it was a great new experience… wonder what activity The Adeno Gang will do next.
